What is SFMA?

The School Facility Manufacturers' Association (SFMA) was formed in 1987 to be an effective voice for the modular building industry in California. SFMA is comprised of a select group of modular building manufacturers, architects, suppliers and others in related businesses who serve California's education system with pioneering ideas and integrity.

Our Purpose

SFMA's purpose is to increase public awareness of the industry's quality modular buildings and of the beneficial impact on school districts in need of alternative measures to meet today's ever-increasing educational demands. SFMA continually advocates for regulatory and legislative changes to advance the industry's ability to effectively meet the needs of California's schools.

SFMA collaborates with various California state agencies to develop consistent, statewide industry standards to serve both members of the modular building industry and the state's school system at large.

SFMA works with DSA to develop and maintain statewide modular building standards, requirements and regulation..

California Department of Education
SFMA works with CDE to serve the California school system by providing information about modular buildings available to meet a variety of needs, including Child Care Facilities.

Office of Public School Construction
SFMA works with OPSC to provide the state with modular buildings for the Statešs Emergency Portable Classroom Program to assist urgent-need school districts with housing needs.

Why are modular classrooms necessary?

Modular classrooms provide school districts with cost-effective, as well as timely, solutions for meeting school facility needs. Modular classrooms help districts fulfill a variety of needs by:

Providing immediate facility assistance to rapid growing districts and eliminating 'spot' overcrowding in growing attendance areas.

Giving districts an alternative to costly and time intensive site construction with low-cost, construction-efficient schools.

Furnishing flexible and customized facilities for a multitude of educational needs.
